The 196-foot-tall Higbee Building was built in 1931 and was home to Cleveland’s first department store, the historic flagship Higbee’s. Higbee’s operated from 1931 until 1992, when it was bought out by Dillard’s and remained so until it closed in 2002. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and at 820,000 square feet, current tenants include JACK Cleveland Casino, KeyBank and Quicken Loans. The building is perhaps most famously known for its prominent feature in the 1983 movie A Christmas Story.
