Galley Group Brings Restaurant Accelerator to Bedrock's Federal Reserve Building

  • Highly successful Pittsburgh-based food hall concept selects Detroit for first push outside Pennsylvania
  • Chef applications accepted through May 1, 2018

MARCH 1, 2018 (DETROIT) – Bedrock announced today that Galley Group, the team behind Pittsburgh’s successful food hall and restaurant incubator Smallman Galley, will open its fourth project in the Federal Reserve Building (160 W. Fort. St) in Fall 2018. The project will provide Detroit’s culinary talent the opportunity to test a new concept in a low-risk, low-cost environment, all in a prime downtown location. Galley Group launched its first incubator concept, Smallman Galley, in Pittsburgh’s Strip District in 2015. They’ve since opened a second food hall, Federal Galley, in Pittsburgh’s North Shore and a location in Cleveland will open in Fall 2018.

Galley Group’s restaurant incubator meets food hall model was founded by Ben Mantica and Tyler Benson, two former U.S. Navy Lieutenants who now aim to assist local chefs in amplifying the culinary scene. The 8,646-square-foot space will feature an open floor-plan with four kitchen spaces and a centralized full bar.

“The incubator model is a proven success in this city. Many of the most successful local brands are alums. In fact, several of our own tenants did stints in places like Ponyride or Bedrock’s seasonal markets before opening their brick and mortar locations,” said Bedrock CEO Jim Ketai. “Creating opportunities for Detroiters and helping local entrepreneurs achieve their dreams are paramount to Bedrock’s development strategy. It will be really exciting to see what great ideas are born and nurtured through Galley Group.”

Applications are open now for chefs to submit their restaurant ideas and vie for a kitchen space. The four chefs chosen will launch their restaurant concepts with very low financial risk, as Galley Group provides everything from fully-functioning kitchens to mentoring to front of house staff. Applications at galleygrp.com/apply close May 1, 2018.

“We are excited to open in this historic building. We’re even more thrilled to have a part in finding and assisting some of this city’s best undiscovered culinary talent” says co-founder Tyler Benson.
