Detroit, MI [October 9, 2025] – Bedrock today reveals Hudson’s Detroit with the completion of the 12-story office building at 1240 Woodward Avenue. Designed by SHoP Architects, Hudson’s redefines the modern workplace, adding more than 400,000 square feet of Class A office space, destination retail, a premier event venue and a rooftop lounge on the 12th floor, opening in 2026. Bedrock will announce the opening of the 45-story tower, located at 1208 Woodward Avenue, in 2027 with dining, The Detroit EDITION hotel and The Residences at The Detroit EDITION, to round out the 1.5-million-square-foot development.
For decades, the J.L. Hudson Department Store—once the tallest department store in the world—was a cultural landmark for friends and family to gather, shop and dine. Hudson’s Detroit seeks to honor these traditions, becoming a place for Detroiters and visitors to make lasting memories.
Nick Gilbert Way, a new public plaza connecting Woodward Avenue to Farmer Street at Hudson’s Detroit, will be unveiled on Thursday, November 6. Named in honor of the late son of Dan and Jennifer Gilbert, and the heart of the development, Nick Gilbert Way will be an accessible gathering place with seasonal programming such as live music, art installations, retail pop-ups and other experiences, launching this November with Hudson’s for the holidays. Un Deux Trois, a French-inspired coffee truck from Midtown’s Café Sous Terre, will serve pastries, espresso drinks and coffee in the plaza seven days a week.
“Ten years in the making, Hudson’s Detroit is elevating downtown and creating space for the community to come together. Whether you are an office tenant, attending an event or shopping at one of the new retailers, everyone can experience Hudson’s,” said Dan Gilbert, Founder and Chairman of Bedrock. “Through Nick Gilbert Way, we’re delivering a vibrant destination for people to gather, ideas to spark and memories to be made. This is only the beginning for Hudson’s.”
Since its debut in Spring 2025, The Department at Hudson’s has already attracted thousands of visitors to Detroit through community-defining events such as Global Citizen NOW, Crain’s Detroit Business Homecoming and Summit Detroit. Boasting 56,000 square feet of flexible space, The Department at Hudson’s is on course to host dozens of events in 2025.
Also at Hudson’s, General Motors’ new lobby and public showroom will be called “Entrance One,” located at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Nick Gilbert Way. This name honors the legacy of the J.L. Hudson Department Store, where Entrance One was once the main entrance for employees on Farmer Street. In selecting this name, GM recognizes Detroit’s rich retail history and the lasting significance of the Hudson’s building. This marks GM’s fourth office site in the city and celebrates its return to Woodward Avenue, launching a new era with its future headquarters at the heart of downtown.
“As the signature tenant at Hudson’s Detroit, General Motors celebrates Detroit’s rich legacy while embracing the city’s bright future,” said David Massaron, vice president Infrastructure and Corporate Citizenship. “Our return to Woodward Avenue in this state-of-the-art building will allow our teams to drive the future of the automotive industry.”
Shopping at Hudson’s Detroit
Woodward Avenue will soon open between Grand River Avenue and State Street, bringing continuity to the block for the first time in decades. In addition, ALO—a wellness-focused apparel brand—opened at Hudson’s in August, and Tecovas, a modern Western outfitter, will open Friday, October 10. Further retailers will be announced soon, joining Bedrock tenants on the Woodward corridor such as Apple, Shinola, Lululemon, Nike, Savage X Fenty, H&M and The Lip Bar.
