Kresge Building

1201 Woodward Ave.

A block from Campus Martius Park in the Merchants Row shopping area, the Kresge Building was designed by architecture firm Smith, Hinchman & Grylls and constructed in 1917 for Kresge’s discount store. The nine-story, beige-brick structure was purchased by Bedrock in 2012. In 2017, architecture firm Kraemer Design Group renovated the first floor and mezzanine level for the Under Armour activewear store, which filled the space for five years. Remaining above are offices for two of Dan Gilbert’s companies.
