Shinola Hotel

1400 Woodward Avenue

Along Parker’s Alley in the Merchant Row shopping area, the Shinola Hotel comprises two renovated structures—the Rayl Building (designed by architecture firm Baxter, O’Dell & Halpin and constructed in 1915 for Rayl’s hardware store) and the Singer Building (designed by architecture firm Smith, Hinchman & Grylls and constructed in 1936 for the Singer sewing-machine company)—and three new properties. The complex was developed by Bedrock and architecture firm Kraemer Design Group in 2018. The boutique hotel’s rooms feature Shinola clocks, available for purchase at the brand’s luxury-goods store onsite. Open only to overnight guests are a fitness center and a lounge. The location’s event venues include a conservatory.
